Youth Connect were given a very warm welcome by 5th year LCVP students in Ardscoil na Trionoide, Athy, Co. Kildare.

The talk focused on the topics of Trade Unions, Worker rights and worker exploitation and the students were very keen to hear about their rights as young workers.

The students had some interesting questions as they learned that non Irish National workers have the exact same worker rights as Irish Nationals.  The only difference may relate to the number of hours non Irish Nationals can work, which is dependent on their work permit.   We also discussed how it is important to receive a payslip from your job, as it proves that you are legally employed.

The students were very keen to get their hands on application forms for the new iconnect card.  The card is a worthwhile investment as it can be used for both identification and for hundreds of Euros worth of student discounts.  Log on to www.studentcard.ie today to find out more!

Until next time!
